Don’t fall into the trap of forking out thousands for a new car because your old one has a few bumps and bruises. If you have a local auto junk yard that is trustworthy they can extend the life of your old car by many years and at a much lower price than buying or leasing a new car.

Make sure to bring your own tools and look for a junk yard that offers a self service section because those are where the best deals are had. One of our local auto recyclers even has a ‘free parts day’ a few times every year and you pay one flat fee ($49.95) and you can leave with all the parts you can carry! Now that is a sweet deal and by saving money on my car it allows me to take at least one extra vacation every year. Ask around your local area and find out if there is a good junk yard nearby.

It certainly doesn’t take a taste for the anti-social and a fetish for leather to enjoy riding your own motorcycle, nor do you need to join a biker gang to capitalize on all the benefits.

In the 21st century there are many valid reasons to ride a motorcycle that go beyond those related to personal fulfillment. Both a socially responsible choice and a pressure release valve for your personal economy, riding a motorcycle might just be the thing you need to look into to kick start your year into high gear. Here are some of the best reasons why it just makes sense to get around on two wheels, instead of four.

Your Ticket to Adventure

There is no movable box experience (such as car, buses, subways or trains) that can match the hands on feel and the sense of immediate motion that a motorcycle gives you. Even the most conservative bikers that protect themselves with a full set of armor (full-face helmet, body armor, gloves and protective eye wear) get a much better sense of movement than those looking at the road through a glass from inside a moving box.

Protect your Economy

First of all, the obvious: you will save money at the gas station. This will have a dramatic effect on your finances though you’re more likely to notice if you are tidy and keep your books in order (or if you just happen to be filling up the tank next to a regular SUV… you will feel their pain!). Motorcycles also spend less gas on going from point A to point B and decent bikes are much cheaper than any decent car you’ll find. As a bonus, motorcycle insurance is far cheaper than its car counterpart (and no heat transfers means no need for air conditioning.)

Save the World

Motorcyclists can be proud of their vehicle choice. Motorcycles pump out far fewer pollutants than cars and, being lighter, do less damage to the road itself. If we put electric motorcycles (something which is only starting to appear on the mainstream radar) on the equation, the ability to have a quiet commute with zero emissions becomes a reality.

It’s Cool

You know it, your dad knows it, even your geeky neighbour knows it. Riding a bike has long been associated with that bad boy image popularized by many Hollywood motion films during the 20th century. The best part is that you don’t have to be a bad boy yourself to capitalize on all that cultural baggage. So buckle up, take the fabric labels out of your jacket and join the cool club!

Enjoy !

With 5.4 second 0 to 60 times, the 2010 BMW 335i generates 300 horses and 300 lb-ft of torque from its 3.0L I6 twin-turbo engine and 6-speed manual tranny.

Intelligent, safe and respected as a worldwide standard of automotive excellence, the 2010 BMW 335i is perhaps the best car ever built.

With its sharp, compact looks and its very intelligent blending of practicality, performance and European-style luxury, the 2010 BMW 335i continues to set worldwide standards for exactly what a sports sedan should represent. Available as either a convertible, coupe or 4-door sedan, this year’s 335i is a basic carryover from last year. The most significant change is the now-standard HD radio system on all models. There are 5 trim levels available that display suggested base level retail price tags between $40,600 and $51,200.

Average 5-year insurance premiums across America for the 2010 335i by BMW are reported at $8837 (assuming a maximum of 10,000 miles driven annually). And at almost $2000 per year, it definitely pays to conveniently shop insurance quotes online and quickly locate the best prices available.

Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and almost every other automaker consistently strive to create a sedan as well-rounded as the BMW 335i. It’s superb acceleration, stopping and turning abilities our highly respected by almost all industry experts. Completing the powertrain, you have your choice between a standard 6-speed manual transmission – or an optional 6-speed automatic.

Exterior vehicular dimensions of the 335i BMW are 180.6 x 70.2 x 54.1 in length, stable feel, especially at high speeds and in tight corners. The luxurious cabin presents all occupants with plenty of spaciousness and including 39 inches of headroom, 55 inches of shoulder room and 41.8 inches of legroom for frontal passengers. With comfortable seating for 4 (5 in a pinch) there is a somewhat limited 12 cubic feet of luggage capacity in the trunk.

The 2010 BMW 335i is without a doubt one of the finest vehicles on the planet – especially considering its very attractive price points. You can save thousands right now on 2009 models and hundreds more annually by taking the time to comparison shop insurance quotes online. So go ahead, test drive a new 335i today!

For 2010, Chevrolet has once again resurrected the Grand Sport name, introducing a new Corvette Grand Sport production model at the 12th annual C5/C6 Corvette Birthday Bash, held at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Available in coupe or convertible body styles and with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, the new Grand Sport model offers a host of performances.

The Grand Sport borrows from its big brother, the Z06, to offer Vette drivers something a bit less hardcore but with similar visual appeal. The front fascia with the center mounted scoop and wider rear fenders are common to the Z06. The front fenders, however, get a new side scoop design unique to the GS with a chrome badge along the top edge. Unlike the Z06, the GS retains the standard steel frame of the base model, meaning it is available in both removable roof coupe and retractable roof convertible bodystyles.

Filling up those wider wheel wells are the same size Goodyear Eagle F1s fitted to the Z06 – 275/35ZR18 in front and 325/30ZR19 at the back. However, the GS gets a unique five spoke wheel design to show off bigger brakes also borrowed from the Z06. The alloys are available in the usual silver and chrome finishes, but the real winner is probably the Competition Gray, especially when contrasted against the white or silver body colors.

This type of cars needs a special insurance, requires insurancespecialists.com , and like we know all, new cars are built to be safer than ever, banks with air bags, pre-tension seat belts and side door impact beams, of course we are not talking about 2010 Chevrolet Corvette because this car contain dozens of features that made our life safe . Features like these are the accounts of dozens of lives saved in car accidents, while across the country, laws are in place to penalize those who do not wear seatbelts. Auto insurers take into account these factors in determining insurance rates and auto insurance buyer can save money by making wise the same. You can learn to save lots of money on car insurance, while you and your family safe.

Well then, now would be the time to let VW know about your interest. Speaking to our man Mike Levine at PickupTrucks.com, Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volkswagen of America, says that the automaker would need 100,000 takers per year in order to make any money on the Amarok here in the States.

That would be a daunting task for the automaker as the only non full-sized truck that sold that many units last year was the Toyota Tacoma (102,327 units), and the next highest seller was the the Great Grandaddy of the Compact Truck Segment, the Ford Ranger (just 51,097 units).

What’s more, the compact truck market is declining, VW doesn’t have many dealerships in truck-happy areas of the nation and the so-called “chicken tax” would add a 25% tariff to the Argentina-built Amarok.

Add in the fact that Jacoby says there are more pressing vehicular needs that the German automaker needs to concentrate on. In other words… don’t get your hopes up.

It took us a while, but we have finally realized what’s going on: tuning companies are overstocked with Butt Ugly. They didn’t ration their supply properly, now they’ve got unused cases of Butt Ugly lying around, stinking up the place. That’s why we’ve been assaulted with all these steaming piles lately — because 2010 Butt Ugly will be shipping soon, so all this 2009 Butt Ugly has got to go go go!

And that’s the best explanation we can come up with for this, the FAB Design Full Broadside Porsche Panamera. The “extrovert Wide Bodykit” is fashioned entirely from carbon fiber, not that it helps any. If we have anything nice to say, it’s that we don’t mind the wheels or three trapezoidal exhaust tips. Nor do we mind the upgraded engine doing 690 hp. But that wrapping… oh, the humanity…

FAB suggests this is what its customers want, saying that its tweaked Panamera is the first of its new FAB Exclusive line. Praise be it will be limited to 15 units. The press release is after the jump, and to those that can, have a look at the FAB Panamera from every angle in the gallery of high-res photos below. Hat tip to Johannes

It ain’t pretty, but it’s fast. Actually, with a claimed 211 mph top speed, the Brabus Bi-Turbo V12 GLK is the fastest SUV in the world. Which is kinda like being the winner in a Twinkie-eating competition: It’s an epic feat of embarrassing proportions.

To pull it off, the Brabus crew stuck with its tried and true formula of shoving entirely too much engine into a small package. Underneath the vented hood lies a Mercedes-sourced V12 that’s been stroked from 5.5- to 6.3-liters. From there, the Bottrop boys fit a duo of turbos, two intercoolers, a couple high-flow cats and a stainless steel exhaust. The effect is typical Brabus: A staggering 740 horsepower and 995 pound-feet of torque, which is actually limited to 811 lb-ft (at 2,100 rpm) to avoid the gearbox, diff and rear tires from vaporizing in an oily, metallic haze. And naturally, the absurdity doesn’t stop with the engine.

Twelve-piston front calipers clamp onto 15-inch discs, with six-piston calipers and 14.2-inch rotors in the rear, while a height adjustable coilover suspension with ten settings for bound and rebound join 22-inch wheels wrapped in a choice of Pirelli or Yokohama rubber. The exterior and interior have been restyled to match, and while Merc’s diminutive ‘ute isn’t exactly a beauty queen to begin with, Brabus’ blocky aftermarket brutalization lends itself well to the GLK’s squat proportions.

But aesthetics aside, there’s a bigger problem. Actually, there are 397,000 of ‘em. That’s how many euros you’ll need for the GLK V12. For that kind of scratch ($580,000 using a straight conversion), there’s a host of high-power exotica available.

And when you consider the GLK’s sprinting stats — 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and 124 mph in 12.8 ticks — the far less expensive BMW X5 M is easily on par and was actually designed from the onset to be an offensively quick grocery-getter. Then again, the M can’t break the double-century mark at Nardo… something to consider during your trip to Costco. Press release below the fold.

The plan was going smoothly until the new car market collapsed, leaving barren plants in its wake. But it appears as though Toyota is getting back on its feet. Automotive News now reports that the Japanese automaker is now running all of its North American plants on overtime to meet demand and replenish depleted vehicle reserves.

Among the Toyota plants cranking at full steam is the company’s Woodstock, Ontario plant that produces the RAV4. Compact crossovers are hot in the market right now and the Japanese automaker is reportedly looking to add a second shift to crank out more copies of its popular (not so) little CUV. Adding a second shift to the facility will result in 800 new hires at the plant; news that is sure to be well received in the region. The plan is to get the workers trained and have both shifts running at an annualized rate of 150,000 vehicles by April 1. Toyota has even increased Corolla production by adding Saturday shifts at its soon-to-close New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. facility in Fremont, California. In spite of the increased demand for its efficient compact, Toyota reportedly doesn’t plan to reverse its plan to close the factory by the end of March, and the move could be a case of Toyota stockpiling production as it adjusts to life without NUMMI.

The diminishing value of the U.S. dollar, most notably against the Euro and Yen, is causing plenty of grief for foreign automakers. While the US market has been in the tank for the past two years, it still remains a major market for companies like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. All three brands have been looking at ways to relieve some of the exchange rate pressure and Mercedes has decided that more “dollar zone” production will be part of the solution.

When the next generation C-Class rolls out in 2014, German production will be consolidated at Daimler’s Bremen factory while units for the North American market will be built in the U.S. There’s been no announcement about where production will take place, but an expansion of the SUV factory in Alabama is one possibility. On a related side note, part of the reason the Premium German brands have recently avoided selling four-cylinder versions of their entry-level models in the States has been the exchange rates and the associated lack of profitability.

With new CAFE rules coming, it’s likely that we’ll be seeing more moves like this in the next several years.

After delivering some 900 Tesla Roadsters, over a dozen employees are taking one on a road trip. Tesla will be back at the Detroit Auto Show next month and this time they’re driving there. On Thursday, December 17, 16 Tesla employees will depart from Los Angeles and head across the Southeast toward Texas and then north east to Chicago and Detroit.

While the the 2,700 mile trip could be completed in a few days in conventional car, it will take two and a half weeks for the Roadster. According to Tesla’s announcement, ” We are out to prove the Roadster is tough and durable, and that range anxiety is for the weak.” While the Roadster may be durable, part of the reason the trip is taking so long is the need to stop and spend several hours recharging every couple of hundred miles. Of course Telsa staff will be using those charging opportunities to show off the car and drum up a few sales.

Speaking of sales, an anonymous source claiming to have knowledge of the situation tells us that Tesla is currently selling about 20-30 Roadsters a month. New Tesla spokeperson Khobi Brooklyn says the company is currently building about 25 cars a week, but declines to comment on the sales figures.
